What is The Role About?
As a Senior Electrical Engineer you will lead design for all professional electrical and instrumentation engineering aspects of our Data Center control system solutions designed in Malaysia. You will work within multidisciplinary teams on engineering solutions that support automation control systems in Building, Energy and Chilled water Management Systems Data Centers.
The role requires a collaborative and harmonious working relationship with ATS project managers, project directors and business development managers. Typically, the engineer will work with the project manager to determine a suitable design strategy, resource, quality and execution plan to ensure that the correct work break down structure is configured and engineering resources assigned, taking into account commitments regarding budget, scope and timing.
This role requires expertise in Industrial Automation, Data Center/Building Management System, (BMS).
The Scope Expected for This Role
- Interpretation of client electrical and instrumentation requirements
- Development and management of ATS Malaysia E&I design standards and practices
- Compliance with client and local regulations and standards
- Direct in E&I design, installation and commissioning activities
- Monitoring and review of design changes
- Review of major engineering specifications
- Exceeding customer expectations
Your Responsibilities
Technical Support & Solution Development:
- Electrical Engineering Principles: Deep understanding of electrical systems, circuits, and components.
- Instrumentation Knowledge: Working understanding of the application of sensors, control systems, and measurement techniques.
- Software Proficiency: Strong familiarity with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, PLC programming)
Electrical Engineering & Technical Expertise
- Apply strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles in power distribution, protection systems, and critical infrastructure
- Perform load calculations, fault analysis, and system coordination studies.
- Ensure reliability, redundancy, and efficiency of electrical systems in data center environments.
- Provide technical guidance on electrical design, troubleshooting, and optimization.
Instrumentation & Control Integration
- Work closely with automation teams to integrate electrical systems with AutoCad, MATLAB, PLC, SCADA, and BMS platforms.
- Understand instrumentation components such as sensors, meters, and control devices within electrical systems
Software & Tools
- Proficient in engineering tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, or equivalent
- Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems and basic programming concepts is an added advantage
Collaboration & Project Management Skills:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for software integration and testing.
- Assist in project planning, execution, and coordination between internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to diagnose issues and develop effective solutions.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Communication Skills
- Technical Communication: Ability to clearly articulate complex electrical concepts (e.g., power distribution, protection schemes, redundancy design) to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Documentation & Reporting: Proficient in preparing electrical design documents such as Single Line Diagrams (SLD), load calculations, technical specifications, method statements, and commissioning reports
Regulatory and Safety Knowledge
- Compliance: Strong understanding of electrical standards and regulations (e.g., MS IEC, IEEE, local authority requirements), including data centre best practices and safety compliance
- Electrical Safety & QA/QC: Ensure adherence to electrical safety standards, testing protocols, and quality assurance processes throughout design, installation, and commissioning phases
The Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical or a related field.
- Min 5 to 10 years of professional experience within an engineering company or a similar role.
- Min 7 years of in Project Electrical Engineering with a strong emphasis on instrumentation and electrical panels.
- Current BEM Practicing Certificate, or eligible to renew.
- Registration with Board of Engineers Malaysia or professional certifications.
- Added advantage in an industrial or building automation for Data Centre projects, construction environment, or similar high compliance industry such as oil and gas, water, pharma, or medical devices.
- Experience with PLC and SCADA Programming.
