OVERVIEW
The Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer holds design authority for all professional electrical and instrumentation engineering aspects of our control system solutions in Australia and in data centre solutions across the APAC region.
The Senior E&I Engineer works within multidisciplinary teams on engineering solutions that support automation control systems in the manufacturing and process industry and building, energy and chilled water management systems data centres.
The role requires a collaborative and harmonious working relationship with ATS project managers, project directors and business development managers. Typically, the engineer will work with the project manager to determine a suitable design strategy, resource, quality and execution plan to ensure that the correct work break down structure is configured and engineering resources assigned; taking into account commitments regarding budget, scope and timing.
The role will be based in our Mulgrave, Victoria offices.
SCOPE
The scope of responsibility includes:
- Interpretation of client electrical and instrumentation requirements
- Development and management of ATS E&I design standards and practices
- Compliance with client and local regulations and standards
- Direct supervision of engineers engaged in E&I design, installation and commissioning activities
- Supervision of E&I drafting team including off-site remote workers
- Selection and supervision of E&I installation contractors
- Monitoring and review of design changes
- Mentoring and training inexperienced E&I engineers
- Review of major engineering specifications
- Support of the sales team in tender submission
- Exceeding customer expectations
Interfacing with our customers’ consultants and senior design staff is key to the success of this role as is working effectively with regional sales and delivery teams.
Working at a senior level with sub-contractors and stakeholders in APAC requires strong local understanding, strong inter-personal intelligence and a hands-on approach; as well as the ability to manage regional projects simultaneously.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours or Masters
- Holds BLA certificate of registration as a practising Professional Engineer in the electrical area of engineering in Victoria
- Holds a VBA endorsement and to practice in the building industry in Victoria.
- Has no circumstances pending that may result in a failure to meet the fit and proper person test as set out in Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 in Victoria.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 20+ years’ experience in a project electrical engineering role
- 10+ years in supervision of engineering teams
- 10+ years experience in a construction environment
- 5+ years experience in the data centre or similar high compliance industry such as oil and gas, water, pharma, or medical devices.
